Meyers-Taylor became one of the first women to race alongside men in a four-person bobsled World Cup event since the circuit's debut in 1984, eventually finishing in 16th place at the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation World Cup in Alberta, Canada.

Just an hour before that historic race, the 30-year-old clinched gold in the two-person event with Cherrelle Garrett, which was her first victory on a track outside the US, and she also won the same race at the World Cup opener in Lake Placid.

West meanwhile opened his season with his first-ever World Cup victory at the start of December, becoming the youngest American man to win an International Luge Federation World Cup singles event.

The following weekend, he went on to claim silver in the men's sprint event in Canada, which gave him an excellent start to the new campaign.

The US Women's Bobsled team were honoured after dominating the event in Lake Placid, enjoying a clean sweep of the podium for only the third time in history.

Meyers Taylor and Garrett claimed the victory with start and track records, the duo of Jazmine Fenlator and Natalie DeRatt were runners-up and Jamie Greubel Poser and Lauren Gibbs finished third.

Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline.

The winners are chosen by a voting panel who select from the pool of nominees, with online fan voting via Twitter accounting for 10 per cent of the total result.
