Para-rowers from Great Britain have been getting an early feel for conditions in Rio ahead of next summer's Paralympics in the Brazilian city.

The country became the only nation to qualify four boats for the Games at the World Championships in France last month, and two crews travelled to host venue the Clube de Regatas do Flamengo for an orientation camp.

As well as using the facilities for training, the rowers also viewed other venues which will be used for the Paralympics, including the Maracana Stadium.

The touring party consisted of arms-shoulders men's single scull champion Tom Aggar, and the mixed coxed four that recently retained their World Championship crown – Grace Clough, Dan Brown, Pamela Relph, James Fox and cox Oliver James.

“They had the chance to experience the things that might otherwise throw them on arrival and they also get a feel for the climate at this time of year," said Tom Dyson, the GB Rowing Team Paralympic Programme Lead Coach.

“Only one of the group has visited Rio before, so it was good for them all to see the city and environment they will be competing in.

“It is the start of the Paralympic season, so it will be nice for the rowers to get excited about what they are working towards in the year ahead.”

The GB Rowing Team para-rowing squad is supported by the National Lottery and Guide Dogs.

The country has also qualified Laurence Whiteley and Lauren Rowles, in the mixed double scull, and Rachel Morris in the women's single scull.

The Paralympics are due to be held in Rio between September 7 and 18.
