Lucie Jarrige and Romain Pagnoux delighted the home crowd at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) Paraclimbing World Championships by winning the women's AL-2 and men's RP3 classifications respectively at the AccorHotels Arena in Paris today.

Jarrige proved too strong for the rest of the field as she topped the podium ahead of Canada's Kate Sawford, who took the silver, and eventual bronze medallist Esme Harte of Britain.

Pagnoux was also in superb form, harnessing the energy of the partisan support on his way to a dominant win in the RP3 event as he led home a French one-two.

Compatriot Mathieu Besnard did enough for silver as he edged out Gregor Selak of Slovenia, who had to settle for the bronze medal.

France were denied further success in the men's B2 visual impairment category as Mathieu Barbe was second behind Japan's Sho Aita, who lived up to his billing as one of the favourites for gold.

Simone Salvagnin of Italy rounded out the top three to ensure he left the French capital with the bronze medal.

Maureen Beck of the United States defeated Hungary's Melinda Vigh in a thrilling women's AU-2 final - a classification for forearm amputee climbers - with Lucio Capovilla not far adrift in third place.

The men's RP1 gold medal went the way of Germany thanks to Korbinian Franck, who had enough in the tank to reach the top in front of team-mate Niels Hersper and Connor King of the United States, who ended with silver and bronze respectively.

Elodie Orbaen of Belgium was another climber to prevent a French competitor from claiming gold on home soil as she beat Oriane Moreno in the women's RP3 event, while Aika Yoshida added a medal to the Japanese haul with bronze.

The Paraclimbing World Championships are being held alongside the able-bodied equivalent event, with semi-finals in the men's bouldering and women's lead disciplines taking centre stage today.

Adam Ondra of the Czech Republic topped the standings in the men's bouldering after the semi-final stage, while Slovenian duo Janja Garnbret and Mina Markovič remain the ones to beat in the women's lead competition.

Action in the French capital, one of four cities bidding for the 2024 Olympic Games along with Budapest, Los Angeles and Rome, continues tomorrow.
