The United States’ Corbin Stacey has risen two places to number two in the latest Para-taekwondo world rankings after winning the K44 men's over 75 kilograms final at last month’s Oceania Open Championships in Suva.

Stacey overcame Poland’s Przemyslaw Wieczorek at the Vodafone Arena in Fiji’s capital and is now chasing Croatia’s Ivan Mikilic for the number one spot with 23.4 points separating them.

Among the other notable changes in the world rankings following the results of the Oceania Open Championships is the climb of Japan’s Chikara Ito from 23rd to 18th after winning the bronze medal in the K44 men's under 61kg division.

Mongolia’s Enkhtuya Khurelbaatar, meanwhile, will enter 2017 as world number three after beating Australia’s Kara Fournie in the golden point round of the K44 women's under 49kg final.

Also making a significant jump is Australia’s Steven Currie, who has risen from 12th to fifth after beating Poland’s Damian Kubiak in the final of the K42 men's under 75kg.

The second edition of the Oceania Open Championships saw 12 athletes from six countries across four continents take part.

It was the final continental Para-Taekwondo Open and the last international Para-taekwondo event of 2016.

The Championships also included the intellectually impaired poomsae P20 category for the first time and the motor impaired P30 classes for the second occasion.

Chinese Taipei made their international debut in Para-taekwondo, with Wei-en Haung obtaining the gold medal in the P33 male division.
