China's Chen Xingtong won the women’s singles title at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Hungarian Open in Budapest after beating compatriot Wen Jia today.

The 19-year-old’s 13-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-9 victory saw her add to the women’s doubles crown she won alongside fellow Chinese Li Jiayi earlier in the day.

Making just her fifth appearance on the ITTF World Tour, it was only the second time Chen had ventured beyond the opening round.

The last time she managed to do so was in 2014, when she suffered a second-round exit from the Japan Open at the hands of top seed Feng Tianwei of Singapore.

Her win in Hungary’s capital sends a message to Kong Linghui, the head coach of the Chinese women’s team, as he turns his thoughts to selection for the 2017 World Championships, scheduled to take place in German city Düsseldorf from May 29 to June 5.

"It was very hard tactically because of constant changes of strategy," Chen, the number 14 seed, said.

"I had to adapt very quickly point by point and also for the changes in the tempo of the play.

"It’s the best start of the year for me.

"I am really, really happy."

Chen and Li defeated the pairing of Sweden’s Matilda Ekholm and Hungary’s Georgina Pota 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-8 in the women’s doubles final.

The men’s singles final was also an all-Chinese encounter and saw Yan An overcome fellow qualifier Shang Kun 13-11, 6-11, 11-7, 11-6, 10-12, 11-8.

Victory ensured a second ITTF World Tour men’s singles title for the 24-year-old in what was his fourth final.

"It was a challenging final against my team-mate," Yan said.

"The moment I felt I could break through it was in the fourth game when I took the lead 7-5 and then 9-5.

"I felt the strength in me to be able to win this final."

Earlier in the day, fifth seeds Fang Bo and Zhou Yu of China won the men’s doubles title after beating Brazil’s Hugo Calderano and Gustavo Tsuboi.

The newly-formed duo overcame the second seeds 11-6, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8.
