Klots, who was already the European champion, completed two further runs today to finish in a combined time of 4min 58.86sec after four descents of the Swiss course.

The 25-year-old won by a margin of 1.43sec over Canada's Lonnie Bissonnette, the defending champion who won at last year's inaugural event.

Bissonnette finished in 5:00.29 and leapfrogged Britain's Corrie Mapp into silver after sitting third overnight.

Mapp finished in bronze medal position in a time of 5:00.63.

That meant the United States' Jason Sturm, the 2015 World Cup champion, missed out on a medal by 0.07 seconds as he finished fourth.

Sixteen athletes from 11 countries took part in the event, including two women in Latvia's Annija Krumina and American Dawn Macomber.

They came 11th and 15th respectively. 

A skeleton competition was also held but with just four registered sliders, the event was not classed as an official World Championship.

Bobsleigh was provisionally accepted for the Beijing 2022 Winter Paralympic programme in September.

An application for skeleton to be included was not successful though, due to the sport not fulfilling a number of the criteria needed.
