Veres arrived in Eger on the back of victory in the women’s sabre mixed category event at the final World Cup stage of 2016 in Pisa in Italy, back in November. 

She looked full of confidence as she comfortably brushed aside compatriot Zsuzsanna Krajnyak 15-12 in the semi-final before overcoming Yevheniia Breus of Ukraine 15-10 in the final.

Russia's Yuliia Efimova took third place while Krajnyak, the favourite in the women's foil category A event, took fourth.

In today's other women's competition, Ukraine's Tetiana Pozniak produced a stunning display in the final of the women's epée category B.

Pozniak blitzed Japan's Anri Sakurai 15-4 in the final.

Kristsina Fiaklistava of Belarus finished third while her compatriot, Alesia Makrytskaya, took fourth.

There was further success for Hungary in the men's foil category A event as Richárd Osvath prevailed.

Osvath overcame Emanuele Lambertini of Italy 15-11 in the final.

Ukrainian Andrii Demchuk took third while Russia's Roman Fedyaev narrowly missed out on the podium.

Anton Datsko of Ukraine, the men's sabre B category gold medallist at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, proved too strong for the rest of the field in the men's foil category B tournament.

Albert Kamalov of Russia was Datsko's victim in the final as the Ukrainian collected a 15-10 victory.

Third place went to Jacek Gaworski of Poland.
