Four countries have launched bids to host matches at the International Basketball Federation (FIBA) EuroBasket Women tournament in 2019.

Israel, Latvia, Russia and Serbia all entered the race to host the event at a FIBA Europe Board meeting which was held in German city Munich.

The event will take place in two of the bidding countries with a final decision due to be taken at an Extraordinary Session on June 24 in Prague.

Of the four candidates, Latvia has held the tournament most recently.

The 2009 edition was held in Liepāja, Riga and Valmiera with France defeating Russia 57-53 in the final.

Israel held the competition in 1991 while Russia and Serbia are yet to play host.

Serbia are the defending EuroBasket Women champions after they won the 2015 edition in Hungary and Romania.

They overcame France in the final, 76-68, with the two countries going on to meet again in the Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medal contest in August.

The Serbians again triumphed to claim third place on the podium, 70-63.

This year's EuroBasket will take place in the Czech Republic.

Competition will take place in both capital Prague and Hradec Kralove between June 16 and 25.

During the meeting, the Lithuanian city of Kaunas was awarded the FIBA Under-16 Women's European Championship in 2018.

It was also announced that Latvia will organise the 2018 FIBA Under-18 European Championship, with the group stages to be played in two cities out of Liepaja, Valmiera or Ventspils.

A decision will be made on which two cities will be chosen at a later date.

The capital of Riga will host the final phase of the tournament.
