Chris Corning of the United States was the top qualifier in the men's slopestyle event at the International Ski Federation (FIS) Junior Snowboard World Championships in Špindlerův Mlýn in the Czech Republic.

The American, who won the final FIS Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup event of the season, scored an impressive 96.66 in the first run of the opening heat to secure his place in the final.

Corning amassed the highest qualification score in the men's event, with team-mate Judd Henkes the next-best performer on 92.00 points.

Their compatriot Keegan Hosefros also reached the final as he scored 82.33, with another American in Sean Fitzsimons ensuring there will be four US snowboarders in the fight for gold.

Fitzsimmons achieved the same total as Hosefros in the second heat.

Other qualifiers included Tiarn Collins of New Zealand, who scored 85.66, and Stef Vandeweyer of Belgium, who amassed 80.33.

Italy's Davide Boggio's 89.00 saw him claim one of the two available places in the fourth heat, where Yuri Okubo of Japan also qualified on 87.33.

In the women's event, a total of four athletes sealed a berth in the final.

Reira Iwabuchi of Japan was the second-highest qualifier on 87.33, while Elli Pikkujamsu of Finland managed 82.66.

Marguerite Sweeney of Canada also edged through to the final thanks to a score of 78.33.

The men's and women's finals are scheduled to take place tomorrow.

Big air qualification and finals are then both set to take place on Saturday (April 1).
