Kuala Lumpur has been selected as the host city for this year’s International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) Football Five-a-side Asian Championships.

The Malaysian capital will welcome teams from across the continent between December 9 and 18 and will mark just the second time the event has been held outside of Japan or China.

Matches during the tournament will be staged at the National Hockey Stadium in the Bukit Jalil region of the city.

It will be the seventh edition of the competition and is being organised by the Malaysian Blind Sports Association.

The winners of the tournament will receive a place at next year’s World Championships being held in the Spanish capital of Spain.

Iran, who lost 1-0 to Brazil in the gold medal match at Rio 2016 Paralympics, are the reigning champions after beating China on penalties in Tokyo two years ago.

This was the first time the Chinese had not taken home the trophy since the maiden tournament in Vietnam, which was won by Japan.
