Canada maintained their 100 per cent record in front of a home crowd on day two of the World Curling Federation (WCF) Men's World Championship in Edmonton.

After three matches of round robin play, the hosts are the only team to boast three wins at the Northlands Coliseum.

They began by easing past Russia 11-3 in today's morning session, before returning to the ice to see off Sweden 8-6.

The victory over Sweden was a tight affair with Canadian skip Brad Gushue happy to get the better of rival Niklas Edin.

"I thought Niklas' team played really good," he said.

"I got lucky in the sixth end to make a good draw and have him miss one to get a deuce.

"Anytime you play Niklas you have to play well - they are one of the best teams in the world."

The Scots are now one of six countries on a record of won two, lost one - alongside Japan, Italy, Norway, Switzerland and Sweden.

Japan had gone into their match with Scotland by beating winless Netherlands 9-6.

Italy won their only match of the day, 8-3 against China, who went on to record their first win of the tournament with a 9-6 success over Russia who are yet to get off the mark.

Norway experienced a mixed day, losing 6-3 to Switzerland before an 8-3 success over the Dutch.

Sweden also won one and lost one on the day as they beat Germany 8-2.

Round robin play will continue tomorrow in Edmonton.
