International Paralympic Committee (IPC) officials have praised London 2017’s preparations for the World Para Athletics Championships, which will take place in July.

The organisation made the assertion after completing a two-day visit to the London Stadium on March 29 and 30, where they reviewed plans for the Championships.

As part of their co-ordination commission meeting, the IPC officials were provided with an extensive tour of the facilities at the stadium, which hosted the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

They assessed all competition, hospitality, protocol, broadcast and press areas, as well as the surrounding Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

“With almost 100 days to go, we are extremely excited about the World Para Athletics Championships being hosted in London,” said Ryan Montgomery, IPC summer sports director.

“It is always enjoyable coming to London and the organisers were open and transparent about their plans for the Championships throughout our visit, we cannot speak highly enough of the progress they are making.

“We have no doubt that Championships will be a fantastic success and we know our athletes are relishing the chance to compete at such a world-class venue and the scene of some great Paralympic moments.”

Operational plans for the Championships were also assessed, with the IPC aiming to get a full grasp of how efforts are progressing on delivering medical services, the clean athletics programme as well the communications and marketing plans.

The IPC went on to discuss the spectator experience, catering, accommodation, transport, accreditation and visas and immigration.

“It is always a pleasure to invite our friends from World Para Athletics over to London,” said Cherry Alexander, London 2017 World Para Athletics Championships managing director.

“We enjoyed two very productive days and received great feedback from those who attended.

“The World Para Athletics Championships are now almost 100 days away and the visit was another perfect chance to outline our plans for the event and showcase the excellent facilities and services that we are proud to be offering.”

The World Para Athletics Championships are due to take place from July 14 to 23, with the event taking place prior to the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Championships in the same venue.

They will take place from August 4 to 13, marking the first time both events have taken place in the same city, with over 3,000 athletes from over 200 nations competing over 20 days of action.
