The British Lionhearts overcame the France Fighting Roosters in a top of the table clash in the World Series of Boxing (WSB) this evening.

The British squad claimed a narrow 3-2 victory at York Hall in London, despite racing into an early lead.

It was only the British team's second match since they were caught up in a terrorist attack on Westminister last month.

Prior to this evening's match, both sides had secured three wins from their first four matches of the campaign so far, but it was the Lionhearts who extended their lead at the top of Pool B.

A 4-1 record before tonight showed how well Galal Yafai has performed so far in the competition for the Lionhearts.

He got the hosts off to a positive start against the Roosters' Spanish draft Martin Molina at 49 kilograms.

Yafai, knocked out of last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro in the last 16, claimed a unanimous points win.

Peter McGrail added a second victory for the Lionhearts at 56kg, with the bantemweight securing a unanimous points success over Samuel Kistohurry.

The Lionhearts' Conor Loftus has moved down to 64kg for the new season and he claimed a victory over one of the best in the weight class, Hassan Amzile.

Amzile, eliminated in the round of 16 at Rio 2016, was beaten by Loftus on a unanimous points decision.

Nizar Trimech restored some pride for the Roosters as he scored the French team's first point of the night in the 75kg contest where he defeated Hungarian Zoltan Harcsa, representing the Lionhearts.

The final bout of the night saw the two teams' draft picks go head to head in an all-Croatian affair.

The Roosters' Alen Babic got the better of Josip Bepo Filipi in the heavyweight category.

Babic defeated Filipi in the semi-finals of the Croatian National Championships back in 2015 and extended his dominance over his compatriot by scoring a unanimous points win.

Action is set to continue in Pool B tomorrow night when  the Morocco Atlas Lions play host to Italia Thunder at the Salle Omnisports Moulay Al Hassan in Oujda.
