Chaffey will be one of the home stars on show in the event as the Australian city hosts a World Paratriathlon Series event for the first time.

The 41-year-old will be competing in the hand cycling discipline, set to be the event contested at next year’s Commonwealth Games, with Paratriathlon making its debut at Gold Coast 2018.

Nic Beveridge and Scott Crowley will join him in the men’s field, with the first across the line receiving a nomination from Triathlon Australia for a Commonwealth Games berth.

Emily Tapp and Sarah Tait will represent Australia in the women’s event as they look to secure spots at Gold Coast 2018.

"Everyone is building towards a September focus and the World Championships in Rotterdam, then the Commonwealth Games and the start of the four-year cycle towards Tokyo 2020,” Kathryn Periac, Triathlon Australia’s Paratriathlon programme manager, said. 

"For the PTHC (Paratriathlon handcycling) guys that selection urgency is on the line tomorrow with the first nominations up for grabs for the first of two available 2018 Games spots with the second place discretionary picks.

"I am really pleased to see how well they have all progressed and to get the team back together and to build on our successes, support, work ethic and excellence ethic."

The course will feature a 750 metres swim, 20 kilometres bike and 5km wheelchair run.

Paralympic gold medallist Katie Kelly and her guide Michellie Jones will be among those taking to the course in the visually impaired event, with the Australian seeking further success.

World and Paralympic champion Jetze Plat will be competing for the first time since winning the Paralympic gold medal at Rio 2016, with the Dutchman on the startline in the hand cycling event.

Allysa Seely, another Paralympic champion, and Mark Burr will be among the United States’ representatives in PTS2 competition.
