Dan Norton became the leading try scorer in the history of the World Rugby Sevens Series as action began at the seventh leg of the season in Hong Kong today.

The Englishman dotted down for his 245th try as his country demolished South Korea 52-0 in Pool A at Hong Kong Stadium.

It means the Olympic silver medallist has overtaken the previous record held by Kenya's Collins Injera.

Every side played one game each on the first day of competition today.

Australia also clinched a victory in Pool A as they edged Samoa 21-19.

South Africa, the current Series leaders after four tournament wins this term, squeezed out France 17-10 in Pool B.

In the same pool, Canada beat Kenya 17-14.

Pool C saw a crushing win for Olympic gold medallists and defending Sevens Series champions Fiji.

The Pacific Islanders thrashed Japan 36-0 with New Zealand beating Wales in the same group, 19-7.

In Pool D, there were victories for the United States and Argentina.

The US edged past Russia 14-7, with Argentina proving too strong for Scotland, 22-14.

Pool play will continue in Hong Kong tomorrow with each country playing twice to determine the quarter-final line-up.
