The exhibition, organised by the United Nations event organisers at their offices in Geneva, was part of a series of events designed to commemorate the day and build upon its online campaign #WePlayTogether. 

It sought to showcase the power of sport as a "tool to promote peace, unity and inclusion" through selected pictures.

Orchard formed part of a presentation party alongside distinguished representatives from UN Group of Friends of Sport for Development and Peace.

“I was honoured to be asked to speak at the inauguration of the We Play Together photo exhibition," she said afterwards.

"The campaign represents the power of sport to promote peace, unity and inclusion, reflecting some of the core elements of wheelchair basketball as a sport.

“One of the main objectives for IWBF is to use sport to make people’s lives better and the UNOSDP’s We Play Together campaign is really important to highlight how much influence sport can have on individuals and communities.

“I was delighted to be able to share how IWBF uses sport to provide opportunities for women and men of all ages with physical disabilities to gain self-confidence, fitness and an awareness of their abilities.

“IWBF is committed to working with the UN to help spread the word - sport can be used to promote integration, to show ability where it was not seen before and to promote peace.”

The UN has already been working closely with the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee in a bid to ensure that they unite their efforts to improve societies through sport.

Intended goals of a wider partnership between the IWBF and the UNOSDP include establishing wheelchair sport as a therapeutic exercise with the focus on a feeling of togetherness and reviving the discussion about regional efforts to foster inclusion.

It is also hoped the partnership will see the creation of new structures which can be self-sustained without support.
