The team are claimed to have a blend of youth and experience, with the squad now set to make their preparations for the Championships in Canada.

Action will take place in Whitehorse from July 7 to 16, with 20 nations competing for the world title.

Jarryd Farrell, Hayden Mathews, Joshua McGovern, Ryan Merriman, Brendan O’Byrne, Liam O’Leary and Lewis Weldon are the new faces, with head coach Laing Harrow hoping they can help Australia spring a surprise.

“They went to the Challenge Cup in Auckland and handled themselves well against quality opposition like New Zealand and Argentina,” Harrow said.

“That experience was massive for us and will do them the world of good. 

"It won’t be as daunting when they face those teams in Whitehorse.

“We are aiming to win the whole thing, that’s what the guys are preparing for.

“Teams like Canada, Argentina, New Zealand and Japan are going to be hard to beat, and we’ll have to be on top of our game against them.”

Adam Folkard, Shaun Goffer, Mark Harris, Julian Jemmott and Andrew Kirkpatrick have also been named in the Australian team.

The selection is completed by Nick Norton, Harrison Peters, Nick Shailes, Ryan Sinclair and James Todhunter.

Australia are currently fifth in the world rankings, behind New Zealand, Japan, Argentina and Canada.

The country has won the world title on one occasion, triumphing in the 2009 event in Saskatoon, Canada.

They have also ended as bronze medallists three times.

Botswana and South Africa have been confirmed as the African representatives at the event, while Argentina, Canada, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Mexico, the United States and Venezuela represent the Americas.

Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan and Australia will also join New Zealand at the event, along with European teams Czech Republic, Denmark, Britain, Israel and Turkey.
