A Danish court has today upheld a prosecutor's decision to extradite Chung Yoo-ra, the equestrian rider and daughter of the woman at the centre of a South Korean cronyism scandal.

Former South Korean President Park Geun-hye has already been impeached and removed from office as a result of her links with Chung's mother Choi Soon-si.

Choi was an unofficial adviser for Park who allegedly exerted "undue influence" on policy-making despite having no official Government role.

Chung is accused of receiving "favours" from the Korean Equestrian Federation as a result of her mother's position.

It is alleged that they "poorly managed" Chung's training reports in 2014 and 2015, which should have been written under the national team training code.

Documents were submitted late and without including core information such as her training location and her manager, it is claimed.

Signatures were also reportedly doctored.

Chung should now, in theory, be extradited from Denmark to Seoul.

She was arrested by local authorities in January and had been preparing for the trial in custody at a detention centre in Aalborg.

Chung was ranked 190th in the world in the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) individual dressage rankings at the end of last year and has expressed a wish in a profile on the FEI website "to compete at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo".

She formed part of the gold medal winning South Korea dressage team at the Incheon 2014 Asian Games.

The announcement comes on the same day that the Olympic Council of Asia warned how equestrian risks losing its place on the Asian Games programme if a new Asian Equestrian Federation President is not elected by August.

Sang Jin Park, who is also the Korea National Federation President and President of Samsung Electronics, has already resigned from these positions due to his involvement in the scandal.
