Former national champion Azzam Al-Zubi has been elected President of the Jordanian Weightlifting Federation.

Al-Zubi, a national champion in 1969, was elected to replace Ibrahim Mhesien at a General Assembly in Amman.

He also served as national team coach between 1985 and 1997 before becoming an international technical official.

Al-Zubi has also served as national team manager and was previously general secretary of the national governing body.

Ismail Suboh will replace him as general secretary while Ibrahim Emyan will serve as vice-president.

Other postholders include treasurer Omar Abu Lebdeh, team manager Eng Ziad Al-Madani and Women's Committee chief Maram Dyab.

Kawther Wrekat will serve as chief of the Support and Marketing Committee.

Al-Zubi will seek to raise the profile of the national governing body and target securing the country's first Olympian in the sport at Tokyo 2020.
