Defending champion Rafael Nadal beat Belgium’s David Goffin in straight sets today to book his place in the Monte Carlo Masters final, where he will face fellow Spaniard and surprise package Albert Ramos-Vinolas.

Nadal claimed a 6-3, 6-1 win over his 10th-seeded opponent to remain on course for a 10th crown at Roquebrune-Cap-Martin.

The world number seven recovered from a break down to take the first set and never looked like surrendering his advantage en route to wrapping up victory.

"I found a way to create some damage on David because at the beginning of the match he was dominating," Nadal said.

The 30-year-old is now just one win away from becoming the first man in the Open era, since April 1968, to earn 10 titles at a single tournament.

He is also on the brink of clinching a 50th clay court crown, but will have to find his way past 15th seed Ramos-Vinolas whose remarkable run of form continued today with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 victory over France’s Lucas Pouille.

Ramos-Vinolas' win over the 11th seed ensured him a place in his first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 final.

It followed victories over world number one Sir Andy Murray on Thursday (April 20) and fifth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia yesterday.

"It will certainly be a tough final," Nadal said.

"Albert has beaten Andy Murray to be here so I will have to play my best to win.

"He is playing fantastic at the moment."

Nadal leads world number 24 Ramos-Vinolas 2-0 in their head-to-head record, with victories at the 2013 and 2014 editions of the Barcelona Open.

It is only the fourth time in the tournament’s history that there has been an all-Spanish final following encounters between Juan Carlos Ferrero and Carlos Moyá in 2002, Nadal and Fernando Verdasco in 2010 and Nadal and David Ferrer in 2011.
