Fourteen-time Paralympic gold medallist Daniel Dias was among the winners as hosts Brazil dominated the first mixed class finals of their home Para Swimming World Series in São Paulo today.

A percentage system was applied to all of today’s finals at the Brazilian Paralympic Training Center with Dias leading the field in the men’s 100 metres freestyle with 100.396 per cent.

The 28-year-old was followed onto the podium by S10 swimmers Phelipe Rodrigues and Andre Brasil with percentages of 97.458 and 96.689 respectively.

Rodrigues and Brasil were the bronze and silver medallists at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games.

Cecelia Araujo headed into the women’s 100m freestyle final having qualified in the S8 class for the 2017 World Para Swimming Championships, scheduled to take place from September 30 to October 6 in Mexico City, in yesterday’s heats.

Araujo converted her performance into a win with 92.933 per cent, finishing ahead of S10 swimmer Mariana Gesteira Ribeiro with 92.432 and S11 swimmer Regiane Nunes Silva with 91.067.

Talisson Glock returned to the water after his bronze medal-winning Paralympic debut to take victory in the men’s 50m butterfly with 86.359 per cent.

His time of 35.08sec also saw him qualify for the World Championships.

Glock’s S6 rivals Luis Correa Da Silva and Luiz Calvacante Da Silva were second and third with percentages of 81.416 and 74.197 respectively.

Felipe Caltran will make his World Championships debut in the men’s S14 later this year having won the men’s 100m butterfly with 98.672 per cent.

Thomaz Rocha Matera, an S12 swimmer, touched in for second with 94.034.

He was followed by Vanilton Filho, an S9 swimmer, with 90.698.

Five other Brazilian swimmers will join their team-mates at the World Championships after their performances today in the second set of heats.

Italo Gomes and Matheus Rheine reached the required times in the respective men’s 100m backstroke S7 and men’s 50m freestyle S11.  

Raquel Viel will compete in the women’s 50m freestyle S12, Edenia Garcia in the women’s 50m backstroke S3 and Joana Neves in the women’s 50m freestyle S5.

Action in São Paulo is due to conclude tomorrow.
