The Argentinean Weightlifting Federation hosted a weightlifting seminar in Buenos Aires ©IWF

South American nations have taken part in a seminar aimed at helping to grow weightlifting in the region.

The seminar was arranged by the Argentinean Weightlifting Federation (AWF), under the framework of the International Weightlifting Federation’s (IWF) development programme.

Local experts covered key development policies in Buenos Aires, with AWF general secretary Gustavo Majauskas among those to present.

President of the UNO Deportes sports company Carlos Segura and Gabriel Andreu, development director at national sports secretary, were key experts at the seminar.

Further presentations were given by Rosalio A. Alvarado Del Angel of Mexico and Venezuela’s Eduardo Gonzalez.

The IWF were represented by their vice-president and chair of the Development and Education Commission Jose Quinones, who is also the Peruvian Olympic Committee President.

He was joined by Timea Horvath, IWF development and education manager, who provided information on the governing body’s programmes.

The IWF state the seminar received positive feedback, with the interactive nature of the sessions receiving praise.

Participants were in favour of further seminars in the future as the IWF seek to boost the sport in South America.

An unofficial meeting of the South American Confederation also took place after the seminar, where key future events in the region were discussed.
