Olympic speed skating medallist Wang Beixing of China is among the four skaters to have been appointed to an International Skating Union (ISU) Technical Committee.

The 32-year-old, who won women’s 500 metres bronze at Vancouver 2010, has joined the Committee for her respective sport.

Two-time European champion Nathalie Péchalat of France has joined as ice dance’s equivalent, while Italy’s Roberta Giuliani and Germany’s Christoph Milz have joined those for synchronised skating and short track speed skating respectively.

The ISU Council has also appointed five coaches to the respective Technical Committees, including Switzerland’s Patrick Meier to single and pair skating and Italy’s Maurizio Margaglio to ice dance.

Canada’s Catherine Dalton, Oystein Haugen of Norway and Belgian Wim De Deyne have joined those for synchronised skating, speed skating and short track speed skating respectively.

When the 2016 ISU Congress decided to create an Athletes Commission, it was also decided that those elected onto it would also join the respective ISU Technical Committee.

However, the Congress also decided that if an elected athlete is still actively competing, then the ISU Council shall appoint another not actively competing skater of the concerned discipline to the respective Committee.

This case applies to all Committees with the exception of the single and pair skating, which the United States’ John Coughlin, who is not competing anymore, will join.

Coughlin was voted in as the singles and pair skating member of the ISU Athletes’ Commission in March.

Turkey’s Alper Uçar was elected as ice dance representative to complete the line-up.

Members of the Commission help get views of the athletes competing in ISU events across to the governing body’s leadership team.

The other three members of the Commission were elected earlier this year.

Sweden’s Nathalie Lindqvist stood unopposed as the synchronised skating athlete after Russia’s Daria Rakhvalskaia stepped aside from the vote.

Poland's Luiza Zlotkowska was selected as the speed skating representative during an election at the ISU World Single Distances Championships in Pyeongchang in South Korea.

The short track speed skating athlete vote was won by Hungary’s Viktor Knoch at the World Championships held in Rotterdam in March.
