Mexico have moved within touching distance of the United States in the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Nations Cup Jumping North America, Central America and Caribbean League after claiming a victory on home soil today.

There was just a single fault between the two countries at the top of the leaderboard in Xalapa at the Coapexpan Equestrian Club, although the margin of victory could have been bigger as Mexico’s Antonio Chedraui was not required to jump in the second round as the result was decided already.

The hosts finished on 16 faults to edge their rivals and move to 170 points in the overall standings.

This puts them just 10 behind the US, who lead the table, with the final stage taking place in Langley, Canada, next month.

By the halfway stage, Mexico had just six faults to their name, giving them a margin of three over the US.

Pressure was put on in the second round of jumping with a clear run from Alison Robitaille and her horse Ace, but four faults each from Quentin Judge and Adrienne Sternlicht handed victory to the home side.

With Antonio Maurer and Patricio Pasqual both getting one fault each, it meant the Mexicans had 16 overall, a score which ensured Chedraui would not have to ride for a second time.

Canada finished third with 25 faults overall.
