Two-time champions Astana Arlans Kazakhstan will take a narrow advantage into the second leg of their World Series of Boxing (WSB) quarter-final with Russia's Patriot Boxing Team after claiming a 3-2 away win at the Arena Sports and Entertainment Complex in Kemerovo today.

Bantamweight Ilyas Suleimenov was the first of Astana Arlans' three victors, beating debutant Maksim Chernyshev by virtue of a unanimous points decision to level the scores at 1-1.

Also winning for the visitors were light welterweight Dilmurat Mizhitov and middleweight Saparbay Aidarov.

Mizhitov defeated Aleksei Mazur on a split decision, while Aidarov was adjudged the winner on all three judges’ scorecards against Andrey Kovalchuk.

The Patriots got themselves on the board thanks to victories for Bator Sagaluev at light flyweight and Ilia Kvasnikov at heavyweight, either side of Kazakhstan's three wins.

Sagaluev was a unanimous points winner over Temirtas Zhussupov, while Kvasnikov earned a second-round stoppage at the expense of Anton Pinchuk.

The second leg is scheduled to take place at the Boxing Centre Sapiyev in Karaganda City on May 20.

In today’s other quarter-final first leg, France Fighting Roosters overcame the British Lionhearts 3-2 at the Salle Wagram in Paris.

Light flyweight Samuel Carmona Heredia put the Roosters into a 1-0 lead with a unanimous points win over Galal Yafai.

Bantamweight Samuel Kistohurry then doubled their advantage with a split-decision victory against Peter McGrail before light welterweight Conor Loftus reduced the deficit courtesy of a 3-0 success over Hassan Amzile.

Rachid Achoui got the better of Luka Plantic at middleweight to secure victory on the night for the Roosters, but heavyweight David Kieran Nyika kept the Lionhearts firmly in touch after stopping Kevin Kuadjovi in the third round.

The second leg is due to take place at York Hall in London on May 20.

The two other quarter-final first legs are scheduled for Saturday (May 13), when Uzbek Tigers play host to defending champions Cuba Domadores in Samarkand and Italia Thunder welcome Colombia Heroicos to Rome.
