France managed to secure a victory on the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Nations Cup Jumping Europe Division One circuit despite a fall from Roger Yves Bost.

He was eliminated in the first round of the action in La Baule to give the hosts an early setback at the François André stadium.

France still managed to battle their way into a jump-off against Sweden and Kevin Staut gave his country the win with a clear round.

Sweden had led after the first round with no faults, but the next set of jumps did not go so well with faults from Malin Baryard-Johnsson, Angelie van Essex and Henrik von Eckermann saw them level with France.

This set up the jump-off and Staut got round in 35.47sec without a fence down.

Peder Fredricson, Sweden’s individual Olympic silver medallist from Rio 2016, went up for his side, but clipped the last two fences to end their hopes.

"This was a great win in front of our own fans, our owners and our friends," Staut said.

"There was so much emotion and to win it after Bost was in trouble, with just three of us in the second round, it was for all of us."

Ireland came third with 14 faults.
