World Para Swimming is to launch a new training programme for coaches.

The scheme, due to begin in German capital Berlin in June, offers the chance to be trained in a variety of aspects of the sport.

Known as "Introduction to Coaching", the programme is the first of its kind.

It forms part of a bid to increase the number of coaches and to improve the standard of Para-swimming across the world.

Three days of practical sessions will allow participants to learn the role of a coach, as well as about classification, technical rules, drills and strokes, strength and conditioning, nutrition and talent identification.

Tracy Glassford, World Para Swimming manager, said: "Introduction to Coaching was created in response to feedback from the Para-swimming community and is also in line with our own aspirations to continue to improve the level of the sport."

Glassford added: "It is designed for swim coaches that are just getting into Para-swimming, or those who have been coaching for some years but are looking to advance their skill level.

"The next step is to create a second coaching course, in the coming years, which will be at a more advanced level.

"That will target coaches that are working with or are interested in joining their high performance national team.

"We hope to see lots of interest in these new training opportunities as we build the standard of Para-swimming worldwide."

Applications for the course are due to close tomorrow, with more information here.

The programme will take place alongside the World Para Swimming World Series event in Berlin, between June 29 and July 1.
