A total of 23 Olympic medallists are set to compete at the opening stage of the 2017 Archery World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in Chinese city Shanghai tomorrow.

The three individual gold medallists competing at the six-day event are all from South Korea with Rio 2016 champion Chang Hye-jin joined by London 2012 title winners Oh Jin-hyek and Ki Bo-bae.

France's Jean-Charles Valladont is one of the three individual Olympic silver medallists participating along with Japan's Takaharu Furukawa and Mexico's Aída Román, while the United States' Brady Ellison and Mexico's Mariana Avitia are the two bronze medallists.

A further 15 athletes, out of the 306 competing in all, have won at least one Olympic team medal.

Shanghai first hosted a stage of the Archery World Cup in 2006, the year the circuit opened, and has held one every year since 2009.

Stages are also scheduled to take place this year in Turkish city Antalya from June 6 to 11, Salt Lake City in the US from June 20 to 25 and Germany's capital Berlin from August 8 to 13.

Salt Lake City and Berlin are both debuting with their legs preceding the final in Italy's capital Rome from September 2 to 3.

Only the top-seven ranked athletes in each division, plus one Italian host-nation representative, qualify for the final.

Last year's men's and women's compound gold medallists in Shanghai were Colombia's Sara López and The Netherlands' Mike Schloesser.

Lopez is unbeaten in her last 23 outdoor competition matches at world level.

Although she did not compete in last year's final, she preserved an unblemished record through three Archery World Cup stages and is coming off the back of an incredible three-year run as world number one.

The Netherlands' Sjef van den Berg was the men's gold medallist in Shanghai in 2016 with the Olympic recurve bow.

South Korea's Ju Hyebhin won the equivalent women's event.
