Oliver Dingley, who previously represented Britain, will be Ireland's sole diving hopeful in the Hungarian capital city.

He became the country's first diver to qualify for an Olympic final last year, eventually ending eighth in the men's three metre springboard event.

Dingley will be joined by fellow Rio 2016 Olympians Shane Ryan and Nicholas Quinn, who will lead the swimming team.

Ryan reached the semi-finals of the men's 100 metres backstroke at last year's Olympic Games and will be hoping to make an impact in Budapest.

It has also been confirmed Quinn will compete in breaststroke competitions.

Having broken the Irish 100m and 200m freestyle records in April, Jordan Sloan will hope to continue his recent form at the Championships.

Mona McSharry and Conor Ferguson have been selected to compete in breaststroke and backstroke events respectively in Budapest.

The pair will have a main focus of impressing at the Junior Championships in Indianapolis in August, but will gain experience at the senior event in Hungary.

Brendan Hyland has also been included in the team and is expected to join Ryan, Quinn and Sloan in the 400m medley relay team at the Championships.

It is hoped that Ireland will be able to qualify at least one relay team for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

"It's very exciting for us to be able to select what is a relatively large World Championships team for Ireland, a blend of international experience in the likes of Shane and Nicholas and exciting young talent in Mona and Conor," said Jon Rudd, Swim Ireland's national performance director.

"To travel with a great group of individuals plus a relay into one of the world's biggest events is a great start for us in our quest for success in Tokyo and we will of course also look forward to seeing Oliver compete off the boards after such a successful outing in Rio."

The Championships are scheduled to be held between July 14 to 30.
