Turkey claimed double athletics gold at the fourth Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku today.

Yasemin Can claimed the women's 10,000 metres title while Osman Can Ozdeveci prevailed in the men’s shot put.

Can, a Kenyan-born athlete, is the reigning European champion and her class shone through as she proved far too good for her rivals at the Olympic Stadium.

The 20-year-old won gold in a time of 31min and 18.20sec, someway off of her personal best of 30:26.41 which she set at Rio 2016 when finishing seventh.

Today’s gold was Can’s second in Baku after she won silver in the 5,000m.

Bahrain's Rose Chelimo took silver in 31:37.81 while Mohammed Alia of the United Arab Emirates won her second successive bronze at the Games in a time of 31:49.01.

Can Ozdeveci then won Turkey’s second gold of the day in the men’s shot put.

He threw 19.83m in the first round which nobody could beat.

Sultan Alhebshi of Saudi Arabia took silver in 19.56m while Uzbekistan's Sergey Dementev rounded out the podium with his best attempt of 18.56m, finishing two centimetres ahead of Iran's Ali Samara.

Further Turkish dominance extended to the pool where Turkey’s Kivanc Gur won gold in the men's 10m platform at the Baku Aquatics Centre.

Gur won with an overall score of 320.95 points ahead of Azerbaijan's Artem Danilov and Shahnam Nazarpour of Iran.

The Turk was relatively consistent through the early rounds but found himself 20.30 behind Nazarpour with two attempts remaining.

However, the Iranian produced a poor dive allowing Gur to move into the lead after scoring 67.20.

Danilov then produced the best dive of the final to move into contention following a score of 69.30.

He failed to reel in Gur however as the Turk won his country’s 64th gold of the Games.

Danilov took silver on 308.70 while Nazarpour completed the top three on 303.65.

Azerbaijan continued their wrestling dominance on home soil as they won a further two gold medals today.

Haji Aliyev was victorious in the 61 kilograms event while Jamaladdin Magomedov prevailed at 125kg.

Four days into the competition, the Azeris now hold fifteen wrestling medals, eight of which are gold.

It was the 2014 and 2015 world champion and Rio 2016 bronze medallist Aliyev who won first today at the Heydar-Aliyev Arena.

Aliyev recorded an emphatic 10-0 over Kyrgyz Alibek Osmonov to ease to the gold medal.

Magomedov then recorded his country's second gold of the day in the wrestling arena as he managed to come from behind to win in the final seconds against Kazakhstan's Daulet Shabanbay.
