Petra Kvitova is set to appear at this year's Wimbledon Championships as she continues her recovery from being stabbed in December - and could also play at the French Open.

According to Reuters, the 27-year-old from the Czech Republic is on course for the Grand Slam tournament, scheduled for July 3 to 16, where she won the women's singles title in 2011 and 2014.

Katie Spellman, Kvitova's publicity manager, also confirmed that she has also not counted out appearing at Roland Garros in Paris for the year's second Grand Slam.

Action in the French Open is due to begin on Sunday (May 28) with the draw taking place two days earlier.

Despite not playing since sustaining stab wounds to her left hand during an attack when an intruder posing as a maintenance man got into her home in December, Kvitova is still ranked 16th in the world, giving her automatic qualification for the tournament.

Last month, Kvitova, who is currently seeded 15th for the French Open, had stated she hoped to be ready for a return for the Grand Slam.

"She is on track for Wimbledon," Spellman said.

"She will make a last minute decision this week about Roland Garros."

Kvitova's previous best performance on the clay courts of Roland Garros came in 2012 when she reached the semi-finals before losing to eventual champion Maria Sharapova of Russia.

Earlier this month, the Rio 2016 Olympic Games women's singles bronze medallist confirmed she had returned to training, posting pictures on social media of her on a court in Monte Carlo.
