The Finnish Ski Association has nominated 20 athletes to be part of their cross-country teams for the forthcoming season.

World and Olympic champion Iivo Niskanen heads the selection as Finland build towards the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Games.

The 25-year-old won team sprint gold with Sami Jauhojärvi at Sochi 2014, and will hope to enjoy further success next year.

He won the men's 15 kilometres classic gold at this year's Nordic World Ski Championships in front of a home crowd in Lahti, as well as team sprint bronze with Jauhojärvi.

Jauhojärvi retired from the sport at the end of the Championships.

Iivo's sibling Kerttu Niskanen, a double silver medallist at Sochi 2014, has been selected for the ladies team.

Anne Kyllönen, Johanna Matintalo, Laura Mononen, Krista Pärmäkoski, Riitta-Liisa Roponen and Aino-Kaisa Saarinen have also been selected in the women’s team.

The men's selection includes Matti Heikkinen, Perttu Hyvärinen, Lari Lehtonen, Ville Nousiainen and Antti Ojansivu.
