The number includes France’s Etienne Thobois, the chief executive of Paris’ bid for the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, who will head the Marketing Committee.

All the positions have been filled by BWF Council members with Slovakia’s Peter Tarcala and China’s Tang Jiuhong, the women’s singles bronze medallist at the Barcelona 1992 Olympic Games, taking up respective chair and deputy chair roles on the Events Committee.

Malaysia’s Lim Teong Kiat has been selected as Finance Committee chair with Zimbabwe’s Chipo Zumburani his deputy, while Switzerland’s Paul Kurzo and Canada’s Wayne Somers make up the Para-badminton Committee pairing.

Spain’s David Cabello has been named chair of the Development Committee, with the equivalent roles on the Committees for International Olympic Committee (IOC)-International Relations, Communications and Administration going to Indonesia’s Anton Subowo, New Zealand’s Nigel Skelt and Jamaica’s Vishu Tolan respectively.

Other deputy chairs will be Maldives’ Moosa Nashid on the Development Committee, Ethiopia's Dagmawit Girmay Berhane on the IOC-International Relations Committee, Mongolia’s Battushig Batbold on the Marketing Committee, Scotland’s Emma Mason on the Communications Committee and Belgium’s Gregory Verpoorten, the President of Badminton Europe, on the Administration Committee.

The BWF welcomed seven new members onto its Council, including Tang, last week. 

In addition, 11 incumbent Council members were re-elected until 2021 at the BWF Annual General Meeting in Australian city Gold Coast.

The six other newcomers were Nashid, Batbold, Mason, Nigeria’s Danlami Zama Sanchi, Switzerland’s Robbert de Kock and Thailand’s Khunying Patama Leeswadtrakul.

Those re-elected to serve another four years were Somers, Thobois, Lim, Skelt, Tarcala, Cabello, Zumburani, England’s Nora Perry, Lebanon’s Jassem Kanso, Russia’s Sergey Shakhray, Singapore’s Ng Yoke Weng,

The 27-member body also features BWF President Poul-Erik Høyer of Denmark, BWF Deputy President Gustavo Salazar Delgado of Peru and BWF vice-president for Para-badminton Kurzo, all of whom were re-elected unopposed.

The remaining six places on the BWF Council, which will guide the world governing body through the Tokyo 2020 Olympic cycle, are taken by five continental vice-presidents and the chair of the BWF Athletes’ Commission.
