Latvia's Atis Strenga has been appointed chair of the jury for luge competition at next year's Winter Olympic Games in Pyeongchang.

He was approved for the role by the International Luge Federation Executive Board during a meeting in Calgary.

Strenga is also President of the Latvian Luge Federation.

The jury are responsible for ensuring rules are obeyed and safety is maintained during the Olympic Games. 

Germany's Stefan Riegel and American Mark Grimmette will also serve on a three-strong panel.

Grimmette is currently programme director after winning Olympic silver and bronze medals alongside Brian Martin at the respective Salt Lake City 2002 and Nagano 1998 Games.

FIL technical director Christian Eigentler of Austria is joined by Switzerland's Reto Gilly and South Korea's Shin Sungsik to form the technical delegates.

Germany will be hoping to repeat their clean sweep of gold medals secured at the 2014 Games in Sochi in the South Korean county.

Luge competitions are due to take place in men's, women's, doubles and team relay events between February 10 and 15.
