Seremaia Tuwai of Fiji's jersey from the gold medal match at last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro has been handed over to the World Rugby Museum at Twickenham Stadium in London.

Tuwai, part of the Fijian team which claimed their country's first-ever Olympic medal of any colour at the Games in the Brazilian city, officially gave his jersey to acting museum curator Phil McGowan.

The Pacific nation finished third on the overall World Rugby Sevens Series standings this season.

The defending champions relinquished their crown to South Africa, who had the title wrapped up before the campaign's finale in London.

Scotland clinched their second consecutive London Sevens victory by overcoming England in the final.

Fiji produced a disappointing pool stage performance at Twickenham Stadium, but recovered to lift the Challenge Cup - the secondary title on offer at the event - with a 19-14 victory over Wales.

It was the first time since Las Vegas in 2014 that the Fijians had failed to make it through to the final eight of the competition.

Fiji's rugby sevens side have become household names for their performance in Rio, where they made history by thrashing Britain 43-7 in the final at the Deodoro Stadium.

Last month, it was announced that the Fijian Government would introduce a new banknote to honour the team.

A new note valued at FJ$7 Fijian dollar (£2.60/$3.20/€3.01) as well as a new 50 cent coin will enter into circulation.

Images of captain Osea Kolinisau, former coach Ben Ryan and other team members will be depicted on the coins.

Briton's Ryan was awarded the Companion of the Order of Fiji and three acres of land after he stepped down as coach late last year.
