German snowboarder Konstantin Schad has been elected chairperson of the International Ski Federation (FIS) Athletes' Commission.

Schad, who missed the majority of the previous season due to injury, has served on the body for the past four years.

The 29-year-old, winner of a bronze medal in the snowboard cross event at last year's Winter X Games, will chair the Commission, with American freestyle skier Hannah Kearney chosen as vice-chair.

Looking ahead to next season, Schad said he is excited to be heading back to action.

"I had to find out where I am and take it step by step," said Schad.

"Besides a cross-fit test and a power test, snowboarding was also on my bucket list to check if the pain comes back or not.

"And as my neurologist told me that the nerve damage has healed well so far, everything is now on curse for my preparations for the next season."

Kearney, moguls gold medallist at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver, is a new member on the athletes' body.

She is one of two freestyle skiing representatives on the FIS Athletes' Commission, along with Switzerland's Alex Fiva, who was re-elected.

Russian Alena Zavarzina joined Schad from the snowboarding discipline as she secured the other spot available from the sport.

American Sarah Hendrickson and Norway's Andreas Stjernen were elected from ski jumping, while Virginia de Martin Topranin of Italy and Martti Jylhä of Finland will represent cross-country.

Maxime Laheurte of France was re-elected in the Nordic combined role, while Italy's Daniela Merighetti and Austria's Hannes Reichelt retained their places from Alpine skiing.

"The newly elected Athletes’ Commission will be carrying on the successful work of the previous Commission, whose term came to an end this spring after two years of service," the FIS said in a statement.
