The Italian side avenged their defeat to France in the final of last year's UEFA European U-19 Championship thanks to goals from Riccardo Orsolini and Guiseppe Panico.

Orsolini swept home a left-footed volley to give Italy the lead after 27 minutes, the first goal France had conceded at the tournament.

The French side hit back 10 minutes later when Jean-Kevin Augustin found the net from the penalty spot after Amine Harit was fouled in the box.

Panico then put the Italians back in front after the break as he converted Andrea Favilli’s cross.

It proved to be the match-winner as Italy's defence held firm to ensure they progressed to the last eight, where they will meet Zambia, who claimed a thrilling extra-time triumph over Germany yesterday.

Neither side could find a breakthrough until Cisneros popped up with a late goal to send Mexico through to the quarter-finals, where they will play England.
