Taru Kuoppa of Finland is aiming for a successful return to Antalya in Turkey as she prepares to compete in the latest Archery World Cup event of the season, which begins tomorrow.

The 33-year-old is the sole Finnish representative at the event, due to conclude with gold medal matches on Sunday (June 11).

Kuoppa, who first participated in the Turkish city at the European Championships in 2000, is helping to spearhead an archery revival in Finland after she qualified for last year's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

She earned her Rio 2016 berth at a qualification event held in Antalya last year.

Kuoppa finished 14th in the invitation ranking round in the Brazilian city before she suffered defeat to Htwe San Yu of Myanmar in the first round.

Her Olympic appearance represented the first time a Finnish archer had qualified for the Games since Matti Hatava competed for the nation in the men's recurve event at Beijing 2008.

"There's been a little more interest since, and it's nice to see how archery has been more on TV and in the papers and stuff," said Kuoppa.

"It's good to see people coming to the club and wanting to know more, wanting to start.

"Although everybody still says it's more difficult than it looks."

Olympic silver medallist Jean-Charles Valladont of France is among the entries in the men's competition, along with American competitor Brady Ellison, who took bronze at Rio 2016.

Germany's Lisa Unruh, who finished second at last year's Games, is due to compete in the women's event.

Action begins tomorrow with qualification in both recurve and compound disciplines.

As well as men's and women's individual competitions, mixed team events using both bows are due to be held.
