Canada will meet the United States in the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Women's World League Super Final in Shanghai.

The Canadian team were forced to come through a tightly contested semi-final with Russia at the Natatorium.

Russia were the fastest starters in the match, as they stormed into a 5-3 lead at the close of the opening quarter.

The European team looked well on course for the gold medal match when they extended their advantage in the second quarter, entering half-time 8-4 up.

Canada would give themselves hope as they reduced the deficit to 10-7 in the third period, setting up a tense final quarter.

Four unanswered goals saw Canada complete a dramatic turnaround to advance to the gold medal match.

Their effort was aided by Hayley McKelvey, who scored three goals during the thrilling tie.

Maddie Musselman struck three times in the match to help the holders to an 8-4 win.

The Netherlands beat Australia 9-5 in the first of the fifth to eighth-place play-off matches.

They will now meet hosts China, who beat Japan 12-11.
