A partial name change and the formal approval of plans for a regional sub-office here were among ideas approved at today's first official Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) Executive Committee meeting under new President Neven Ilic.

It comes with the aim of modernising the body and improving its marketing and commercial potential.

The name PanamSports will now be increasingly used to promote the organisation as it is considered easier to understand than PASO and the current Spanish acronym of ODEPA.

New Twitter and Facebook groups set-up since the election of Ilic also reflect this new name.

A domain name of panamsports.org has also been registered to replace the old PASO-ODEPA website, although it has not yet been built.

At present, there are no plans to formally change the constitutional name of the organisation.

However, it is likely that the new logo currently being devised may include PanamSports wording rather than PASO or ODEPA.

They have been order to devise a new logo by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) due to the illegal positioning of the Olympic Rings on the current one.

Plans to open a regional sub-office here received a green light today following a meeting between Ilic and officials from Miami County Authorities.

The main registered headquarters will remain in Mexico City while other staff are now based in Santiago at the Chilean Olympic Committee base.

"I would like to clarify that PanamSports is a Mexican company and will remain based there," Ilic told insidethegames today.

"But we are renting an office here as it is cheaper and easier for people to travel here in terms of time and visas."

The Chilean official, who was elected President in April, now plans to hold meetings here with all 41 PASO members.

An office has been found but the address will not been announced until a contract has been formally signed.

"We want to hold three hour meetings with every single member in order to understand clear their individual aims and targets," he added.

"We will then help build specific programmes for the future based on their specific realities."

Methods to make the organisations more marketable were also discussed today.

"Our first challenge is to make PASO a good product," Ilic said.

"We think that we should be an interesting product for international companies to invest money in.

"This is because the Pan American Games is the most important multi-sporting event here after the Olympics."

A day-long meeting took place of the PASO Marketing Commission yesterday at which they drew-up specific plans and areas to target.
