The Hague is set to host the latest stage of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour.

The Dutch city is hosting the world’s top beach volleyball players for the seventh time.

Matches at the 2015 World Championships were also held in The Hague alongside Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Apeldoorn.

Action is due to take place at both indoor and outdoor venues at the brand new Sportcampus Zuiderpark, a sports complex which is the base of the Dutch national beach volleyball teams.

The centre court is a purpose-built 2,000-seat stadium outside, on the grounds of the campus, while the other two beach courts are located inside.

Organising the tournament is Reinder Nummerdor, who participated in five Olympic Games for The Netherlands.

He played two in volleyball at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004 and three in beach volleyball at Beijing 2008, London 2012 and Rio 2016.

The 40-year old, runner-up at the World Championships in 2015, retired after Rio 2016 where he placed fifth with Christiaan Varenhorst.

This week he will act as tournament director while his wife Manon Nummerdor-Flier, who is also Dutch, will be competing with Marleen van Iersel in the main draw.

Elsewhere in the women's competition, Sanne Keizer of The Netherlands will be making a temporary comeback.

The 32-year old called time on her international career in 2013, but will replace injured Sophie van Gestel at the side of Madelein Meppelink.

Keizer was the 2012 European champion and placed ninth at the 2012 London Olympic Games with Marleen Van Iersel.

She also claimed two gold medals, a bronze and a silver during her World Tour career.

The third Dutch pair starting in main draw on Thursday is Jolien Sinnema and Joy Stubbe while Brazil’s Larissa Franca and Talita Antunes, who won their second gold of the season last week in Moscow, will also be strong contenders in the women’s competition.

The men’s main draw features Dutch 2013 world champions Alexander Brouwer and Robert Meeuwsen.

Latvia’s Janis Smedins, a London 2012 bronze medallist, is also set to compete alongside compatriot Aleksandrs Samoilovs.

Qualification round action is due to begin tomorrow with event concluding on Sunday (June 18).
