Texas State Taekwondo Association President Kim Inseon has been proposed as a United States candidate on the World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Council to represent the Pan Americas.

Kim has served as head of the Texas body since 2003 and has been involved in the sport in the State since 1986.

In this time, Texas has provided many of the leading American taekwondo players, including two-time Olympic champion Steven López.

Kim has been credited with a key role in exchange programmes in which top international athletes have come to the State while others have travelled overseas.

"I have taken each of my positions very seriously and given my best to ensure that Texas was a leader in the USA in producing the top taekwondo athletes," said Kim.

"Texas has produced the most Olympians for USA Taekwondo. "

Kim added: "This past Rio Olympics, all four Olympians called Texas home.

"I believe what makes me a suitable candidate for this position is a combination of these crucial factors.

"I have a true passion for taekwondo and desire to promote its many benefits.

"I have had many years in different key positions and posts that have given me invaluable experience, and the passion and experience has resulted in giving me a vision on how taekwondo can become a strong and influential force in the global community."

An election is due to be held during the WTF General Assembly in Muju on June 23.
