Hosts Belgium lost in five sets to Canada as action continued at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) World League.

The North Americans raced into a 2-0 lead before the home side restored parity at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp.

Canada then won the decider, wrapping up a 25-23, 25-13, 24-26, 22-25, 15-10 victory.

Italy beat France 3-2 in the second game in the I1 mini-pool in Antwerp.

They prevailed 20-25, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 16-14 in a close encounter. 

The result upset the form guide with France currently at the top of the overall 12-team table, which all the mini-pools feed into.

It was a first defeat for the French who are already assured of going through to the next round as one of the top six qualifiers.

Canada now sit fourth and boast four wins and three defeats, one place ahead of Belgium.

Italy remain in 11th position.

Two Pool G1 matches were played today at the Orfeo Superdomo in Córdoba in Argentina.

The hosts were beaten 3-2 by Serbia, who triumphed 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 28-30, 15-12.

It means that Serbia sit second and have also qualified for the final six, with the Argentinians rock bottom with just one victory.

Olympic champions Brazil are third after a 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 victory.
