A strong field will be in action when the 2017 Karate 1-Series A season begins tomorrow in Toledo in Spain.

Series A complements the top tier Karate 1-Premier League with four events scheduled this year.

More than 800 competitors from 67 countries are registered for the Toledo competition, which will take place across two days at the Sports Hall Javier Lozano Cid.

World Championship medallists will be among those hoping to make their mark, including Brazil's two-time global winner Douglas Brose in the men's under-60 kilograms kumite division.

In the women's under-50kg kumite, World Championships bronze medallist Bettina Plank of Austria and European Championships silver medallist Duygu Bugur of Germany will be among the front-runners.

Spain will field the biggest delegation on home soil, with 165 competitors due to compete.

The number includes Damian Quintero and Sandra Sanchez, the favourites for the men's and women's kata titles respectively.

After Toledo, the Karate 1-Series A season will stop in Istanbul, Salzburg and Okinawa.
