Japan's Sayaka Sato shocked fifth seed Sung Ji-hyun of South Korea to seal the women's singles title at the Badminton World Federation (BWF) Indonesia Open.

The unseeded Japanese player ensured she topped the podium at the Super Series event as she battled to a marathon 21-13, 17-21, 21-14 triumph in a match that lasted nearly an hour and 20 minutes at the Jakarta Convention Center.

The result saw Sato claim her maiden Super Series crown.

"Each and every match was hard, but I was able to persevere," the Japanese said.

"There wasn’t a single easy match - all my opponents were strong."

Japan had earlier endured disappointment in the men's singles final as India's Srikanth Kidambi beat Kazumasa Sakai in just 37 minutes.

Kidambi wrapped up the first BWF Indonesia Open crown of his career with a superb display, culminating in a dominant 21-11, 21-19 victory.

"My coach will have a special place in my heart as after he came, I reached the finals at Singapore and to win this tournament, which is considered the biggest tournament," the victorious Indian said.

"I want to thank all the fans who have been rooting for me all this week."

China secured two of the three doubles titles on offer on the final day.

Top seeds Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen were stunned by Indonesia's Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, who earned the mixed doubles title.

The Indonesia duo sent the home crowd into raptures by ousting their Chinese opponents 22-20, 21-15.

Chen and Jia Yifan, the fifth seeds, accounted for third-seeded South Korean pair Chang Ye-na and Lee So-hee 21-19, 15-21, 21-10 to win the women's doubles crown.

There was another slight upset in the men's doubles as third seeds Li Junhui and Chen Qingchen beat second seeds Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen of Denamrk 21-19, 19-21, 21-18.
