Russia's Viacheslav Krasilnikov and Nikita Liamin claimed the men's title at the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) Beach World Tour event in The Hague after beating Spain’s Adrian Gavira and Pablo Herrera in the final.

The seventh-seeded duo triumphed 23-21, 22-20 against their sixth-seeded opponents at the Dutch city's Sportcampus Zuiderpark.

Victory secured them their second gold medal of the season having topped the podium on Kish Island in Iran in February.

It comes two weeks afters Krasilnikov and Liamin suffered a three-set loss against the United States’ Phil Dalhausser and Nick Lucena in the final of their home event in Moscow.

"We are thrilled with this win against a very good Spanish team," Liamin said.

"Our season has been like a roller-coaster with three 'lower' finishes until reaching the finals in Moscow."

Italy’s Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai defeated Switzerland's Nico Beeler and Marco Krattiger 21-18, 21-15 in the bronze medal match.

The women's final saw Brazil’s Maria Antonelli and Carolina Salgado became only the second female team in the history of the FIVB World Tour to win a gold medal after advancing through two rounds of qualification.

The newly-formed 15th-seeded pairing beat Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré of Switzerland 21-17, 21-11 in the final.

Victory capped off an unbeaten record of nine wins out of nine at the event, which is only their second as a duo.

"We help each other a lot," Salgado said.

"It doesn't matter if we win or if we lose, we have a good chemistry for sure.

"We are positive people - we always think good things will happen and I enjoy playing with her a lot."

The first team to win a FIVB World Tour gold medal having started in the country-quota round were the US's Jen Kessy and April Ross in Norwegian city Stavanger in 2007.

The Americans, however, lost two of their three pool-play matches before winning their final six contests.

Brazil’s Agatha Bednarczuk and Eduarda "Duda" Lisboa claimed the bronze medal in The Hague with a 16-21, 21-13, 15-11 win over Canada’s Melissa Humana-Paredes and Sarah Pavan.

The FIVB Beach World Tour is due to resume in Porec later this month with the Croatian town scheduled to host a Major Series event from June 27 to July 2.
