Mohammad Amir led an inspired bowling performance from Pakistan as they thrashed India by a colossal 180 runs to win the International Cricket Council Champions Trophy.

Fast-bowler Amir, who served half of a six-month prison sentence after being convicted of spot-fixing during a Test match against England in 2010, removed the top three batsmen as India collapsed to 158 all out in pursuit of an imposing 339 at The Oval in London.

It was a target India never looked like reaching as Hasan Ali also chipped in with three wickets, while 18-year-old leg-spinner Shadab Khan picked up two in a stunning display with the ball from Pakistan.

Amir took the crucial wickets of Rohit Sharma, captain Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to leave India reeling at 33-3 and only a sparkling knock of 76 from 46 deliveries by Hardik Pandya spared his side further embarrassment.

India won the toss and elected to put Pakistan into bat - a decision they were left to regret as a magnificent 114 from Fakhar Zaman, coupled with welcome contributions of 59 and 57 not out from Azhar Ali and Mohammad Hafeez respectively, guided them to a total which proved insurmountable.

Zaman's innings, which came from 106 balls, was a joy to watch as he dispatched India's bowlers to all parts of the ground on his way to his maiden one-day international century.

The reply from India began badly as Amir trapped Sharma leg-before for a duck.

The 25-year-old had the wind in his sails and swiftly removed Kohli, widely considered as the best in the world, before Darwan followed his captain back into the pavilion after he was caught by Sarfraz Ahmed.

Only Pandya, who was eventually run out in farcical circumstances, offered any resistance but even his cameo proved to be in vain as his team fell to a heavy loss against a team they beat by 124 runs in the opening game of the tournament.

The result at the end of the match, watched by billions around the world, handed Pakistan their maiden Champions Trophy triumph, while it also marked their first global 50-over title since 1992.
