France claimed three kumite gold medals as action concluded today at the 2017 Karate 1-Series A opener in Spanish city Toledo.

Sophia Bouderbane beat fellow Frenchwoman Aurore Bourcois 1-0 in the final of the women's under-50 kilograms category, which saw Chile's Gabriela Bruna and Austria's Bettina Plank take the bronze medals.

Other triumphs for France at the Sports Hall Javier Lozano Cid came courtesy of Logan Da Costa and Jessie Da Costa.

Logan Da Costa defeated Iran's Bahman Asgari Ghoncheh 8-7 in the men's under-75kg final, while Jessie Da Costa overcame Greece's Georgios Tzanos 4-1 in the men's under-84kg final. 

The under-75kg bronze medals went the way of Greece's Nikolaos Kosmas and France's Maxime Relifox.

Russia's Ilya Granovesov and Chile's Jorge Acevedo rounded out the under-84kg podium.

The seven other kumite gold medals were spread among as many nations.

Algeria's Saïda Djedra beat England's Carla Burkitt 4-2 in the women's under-55kg final with Spain's Carlota Fernandez Osorio and Kazakhstan's Sabina Zakharova having to settle for bronze.

Other women's finals saw Peru's Alexandra Grande defeat Portugal's Ana Raquel Simão 3-0 at under-61kg, Germany's Johanna Kneer overcome Croatia's Ivana Bebek 6-0 at under-68kg and Russia's Ivanna Zaytseva beat Italy's Clio Ferracuti 2-0 at over-68kg.

Bronze medals were won by Canada's Haya Jumaa and Spain's Cristina Ferrer Garcia at under-61kg, the United States' Cheryl Murphy and Italy's Silvia Semeraro at under-68kg and Finland's Titta Keinanen and Switzerland's Ramona Bruederlin at over-68kg.

Among the other men's winners was Spain's Matias Gomez Garcia, who edged Russia's Evgeny Plakhutin in the under-60kg final on the judges' cards.

England's Jordan Thomas defeated Kazakhstan's Assylbek Muratov 9-1 in the men's under-67kg final, while Georgia's Gogita Arkania overcame Morocco's Achraf Ouchen in a closely-contested men's over-84kg final. 

Bronze medals were won by Italy’s Danilo Greco and Georgia’s David Tkebuchava at under-60kg, Spain's Raul Cuerva Mora and Kazakhstan's Rinat Sagandykov at under-67kg, and The Netherlands' Salim Bendiab and Poland’s Michal Babos at over-84kg.

Spain claimed both team kata titles, beating England 5-0 in the men's final and Romania by the same scoreline in the women's final.

Series A complements the top-tier Karate 1-Premier League with four events scheduled this year.

The next stop is due to take place in Turkish city Istanbul from September 23 to 24.
