Olympic champions Argentina fought back from 3-0 down to earn a thrilling draw with hosts England at the Hockey World League semi-final event in London.

England looked to be on course for their third consecutive victory of the tournament but Argentina showed their battling credentials to escape with a point in the Pool A clash at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Mark Gleghorne gave the home side the lead six minutes in when he converted a penalty stroke before they quickly doubled their advantage through Sam Ward.

Barry Middleton then continued his rich vein of goal-scoring form with England's third after 34 minutes.

England would have been confident of defending such a commanding advantage but their South American counterparts, who beat Belgium to clinch the gold medal at Rio 2016, had other ideas.

Gonzalo Peillat spearheaded the Argentinian comeback as he reduced the deficit to 3-1 from a penalty corner.

Matias Paredes swiftly found a second, before Peillat restored parity barely a minute later.

The result saw England surge to the top of the group on goal difference in front of Argentina.

India secured their place in the quarter-finals as they picked up their third win of the competition by thrashing Pakistan 7-1 in Pool B.

Talwinder Singh, Harmanpreet Singh and Akashdeep Singh all scored twice for the rampant Indian side, with Pardeep Mor also finding the net.

Muhammad Umar Bhutta was the sole scorer for Pakistan but his strike proved little more than a scant consolation.

India remain top of Pool B having taken maximum points from their opening three matches.

"I thought Pakistan were the better team in the first quarter and they created more opportunities but after we scored the first goal we started to play according to our plan," said India head coach Roelant Oltmans.

“We scored some great goals today and when we score the type of goals that we did today, that is what makes a coach happy.

"I enjoyed the way we played, but as always I look for things to improve in our performances but scoring seven and conceding one is good."

The tournament in London continues tomorrow with four games.

Scotland play Pakistan, The Netherlands entertain Canada, South Korea face Malaysia and Argentina go up against China.
