Great Britain's men's head coach Haj Bhania is expecting a competitive International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF) European Championships as the country eyes a fourth title in a row.

Action at the event begins tomorrow on the Spanish Canary Island Tenerife, with Bhania overseeing a squad which features youngsters and seasoned pros.

"The final European squad has a mix of experienced seniors and athletes who have emerged through our development pathway, a sign of the depth of the programme," said Bhania.

"The European Championships is highly competitive with European teams challenging for the top places at world level, as seen at the Rio Paralympics."

The top 12 men's and top six women's teams on the continent will take part at the competition.

As well as continental glory, places at the 2018 IWBF World Championships in Hamburg are also up for grabs, with the best six men's teams reaching the German city.

Only one women's team will fail to qualify.

"Our priority at the Europeans is to qualify for the 2018 World Championships, a key tournament in our calendar," added Bhania.

"The changes to the GB team will enable us to field different line ups and develop our style."

Britain, who claimed bronze at the Paralympics in Rio in September and beat Turkey 87-66 in the 2015 final on home soil in Worcester, will contest Group A.

They will be joined by Sweden, Germany, Lithuania, Turkey and Israel.

Hosts Spain, who lost out to the United States in the final at Rio 2016, are likely to be the team to beat in Group B, which also includes Switzerland, The Netherlands, Poland, Italy and France.

In the women's tournament, Germany are the defending champions.

They reclaimed the title from The Netherlands in Worcester, beating the Dutch 72-62 in the final.

Only one group will be played, featuring both of last year's finalists as well as Spain, Britain, Turkey and France.

Matches will be played at the Pabellón Las Torres and Pabellón Polideportivo Municipal de Adeje venues.

The competitions will conclude on June 30.
